Global Awareness

According to the Global initiative for banning Corporal punishment, several countries still use physical chastisement as a form of disciplining their children.

In the UK, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (England is currently the outlier, 2023) have banned the use of physical chastisement. Smacking is no longer permitted in the home.

This means if a child reports this, or a family is found to use physical discipline with their children, this will be a case for social care and constitutes a safeguarding concern.

We do not teach you this on arrival to the UK, but it is important to know.
